Gas Logs
Vented vs. Vent-Free
Vented (Most Popular)
-Vented Gas Logs are to be used in a wood burning masonry fireplace or a wood burning pre-fab (zero clearance) fireplace.
-They are meant to be burned with the flu open just like you were burning wood. Some heat does escape, but when the right brand is selected they can provide a good amount of supplement heat.
-Vented gas logs most resemble a real wood fire.
-More flexability. Logs can be positioned according to preferences.
Vent-free
-Vent-free Gas Logs are to be used in a wood burning fireplace or a vent-free pre-fab firebox (one that is approved for vent-free gas logs). They do not require a chimney which makes them more versatile.
-The Vent-free can be burned with the flu closed, so you get almost all of your heat out into the room.
-Vent-free can not be repositioned because they require a clean burn and must be positioned exactly the way the manufacture requires.
-Some states require special permits to burn vent-free products. Check your local codes.
-Vent-free do give off some moisture. We recommend not to use vent-free in basements or areas that are naturally moist.
-We also recommend not to use vent-free if you have certain health conditions.
